As a cosmetic dermatologist, I get asked quite a bit about what I do for anti-aging maintenance and specifically what procedures I have done myself. So here is one that has been a huge success for me. For years I disliked my early sagging jowl, also known as my ‘pooch’ or ‘blob’ that caused me to hold my head a certain way in photos. I wanted to bring technology to the practice that would be comfortable, non-invasive, and results-driven. I was hoping to dramatically improve my jowl area with an in-office device, and now we have Profound RF.
What is Profound RF
As we age, our skin loses its elasticity. The three critical reasons are the appearance of facial wrinkles are:
Profound RF addresses the loss of skin elasticity and has been a game-changer for me and many of my patients. Reluctant to have a full surgical procedure, patients look to me for the best non-invasive treatments available. Profound RF combines radiofrequency (RF) energy and microneedling to stimulate the production of the three fundamentals of skin structure-collagen, hyaluronic acid, and elastin (the steel building block of the skin as I like to call it) to tighten and improve skin texture and tone with only one treatment. Radiofrequency RF energy (radio waves) is a form of electromagnetic energy that consists of waves of electric and magnetic energy moving together (radiating) through space. Profound RF is a bi-polar radiofrequency device with five pairs of electrically isolated, 32-gauge microneedles. The bipolar RF energy is delivered 1.0-2.0 mm deep into the dermal layer of the skin via the microneedles at a 25-degree needle insertion angle to ensure more tissue coverage. The dermis is then heated to 67 degrees C for 3 secs, which is vital because, at this temperature, collagen is partially denatured (alter the natural qualities). Partially denatured collagen is very effective at triggering a wound healing response that then creates new hyaluronic acid, collagen, and, most importantly, elastin. Patients are completely numbed for the procedure with topical and locally applied anesthetic, and the procedure itself is very comfortable. The recovery time is 4-5 days, and there is a risk of bruising, so patients must plan ahead for the treatment.
Profound RF Results
As the first patient in my office treated by the Profound RF device , it took several months to see the results of the procedure (1st picture shows me before and after), I’m happy to say that three years later the effects have persisted by at least 65-75% or more from a single treatment (2nd picture shows me before and three years later).
In my opinion, I don’t think there are any energy-based devices currently on the market that can boast at least three years of good sustained results, and guess what, I’m still aging! You can see me in the APDerm Rhode Island practice to see if this treatment seems right for you.
