In the field of cosmetic dermatology, there are many different treatments available to improve the condition of your skin. These range from chemical peels to laser treatments. But one popular procedure that continues to deliver noticeable results is microdermabrasion. And it can be used to target plenty of concerns and imperfections for a healthy, radiant complexion.
Microdermabrasion has grown to become a popular skincare treatment since its start in the 1990s. With the advancement in technology, visible results, and quick recovery time, this treatment really has taken the cosmetics industry by storm!
But how does it work? Microdermabrasion gently removes the top layer of skin cells to reveal the new, fresh ones underneath. This can add to the diminishing of hyperpigmentation, acne scars, and even signs of aging.
The special applicator that is used has an abrasive surface which can sand away the skin’s hard outer layer. It is considered minimally invasive and can improve the overall tone and texture of the skin.
In most cases, a series of treatments – between six and 10 sessions – will be necessary to see the final effect. Each session lasts around 30 minutes. Patients may experience some discomfort during the procedure but it shouldn’t be painful.
Straight after the session, the skin might appear pink and inflamed, but this will soon subside. Those who undergo microdermabrasion can expect some tenderness, bruising, flaking skin, and increased sensitivity to sunlight for a few days following treatment. For these reasons, it’s crucial to follow the aftercare instructions given by the practitioner. After two weeks, the skin should be looking more youthful and radiant.
