About Aimee Leonard, MD, FACMS, FAAD

Aimee Leonard, MD, is a fellowship-trained Mohs Micrographic surgeon specializing in surgical dermatology, including skin cancer surgery and reconstruction. Dr. Leonard earned her medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 2001. She completed her residency in dermatology at the New York University Medical Center, Skin and Cancer Unit, where she was trained in the medical and surgical management of skin disorders and served as Chief Resident. Her fellowship training, accredited by the American College of Mohs Surgery (ACMS) and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), was in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Procedural Dermatology at the Laser and Skin Surgery Center of Indiana and St Vincent Hospitals and Health Services. Dr. Leonard was awarded the 2005-2006 Distinguished Teaching Award from St Vincent Hospitals and Health Services for her commitment to medical resident education. Dr. Leonard’s experience over fifteen years includes treating and reconstructing over 20,000 cases of skin cancer. She is double board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology in Dermatology and Micrographic Dermatologic Surgery.

Dr. Leonard has lectured and presented original research at local, regional, and national conferences on topics such as skin cancer management, surgical reconstruction, Mohs laboratory tissue processing, and the safety of office-based surgery. She has published over 25 book chapters and original articles in peer-reviewed medical journals on topics such as skin cancer management, regional and tumescent local anesthesia, surgical reconstruction, and perioperative guidelines for dermatologic surgery.

Dr. Leonard has served on the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) Leadership and Mentorship Committee and is a former chair of the AAD Leadership Forum Workgroup. She has served as Associate Professor of Dermatology at Tufts University School of Medicine and is on the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology editorial board. She is a Fellow of the American College of Mohs Surgery and the American Academy of Dermatology and a member of the Johns Hopkins Medical and Surgical Association, the Massachusetts Medical Society, the Johns Hopkins Alumni Association, and the Massachusetts Academy of Dermatology.

Dr. Leonard enjoys all aspects of dermatologic surgery with a particular interest in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and reconstruction and the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered surgical treatment with optimal medical and aesthetic outcomes. Outside of the office, Dr. Leonard enjoys trail running, cross country skiing, reading, hiking, and spending time with her husband and two children.
