Physician-Led Injectable Treatments Across the APDerm Network

APDerm began in 1992, when Dr. Samuel Goos founded Adult & Pediatric Dermatology as a solo practice. Today, that practice anchors a physician-led network of dermatology and plastic surgery brands across New England, with a 4.7-star rating across more than 16,200 patient reviews. Adding Jeuveau gives our patients another FDA-approved neurotoxin option alongside BOTOX Cosmetic and Dysport. Every treatment plan is guided by our board-certified dermatologists, board-certified plastic surgeons, and experienced clinical teams, so your injectable care starts with a medical evaluation, not a sales pitch.

What Is Jeuveau?

Jeuveau (prabotulinumtoxinA-xvfs) is a prescription botulinum toxin type A injection made by Evolus. According to its FDA prescribing information, it is approved for the temporary improvement of moderate to severe glabellar lines in adults. These are the vertical "11s" that form between the eyebrows when you frown. Glabellar lines come from repeated contraction of two small muscle groups: the corrugators and the procerus. Jeuveau works by blocking the nerve signal (acetylcholine) that tells those muscles to contract. With the muscles relaxed, the skin above them smooths out, and the frown lines look softer. The FDA approved Jeuveau in February 2019 based on two placebo-controlled clinical trials. At day 30, 67% and 71% of patients treated with Jeuveau showed meaningful improvement in their frown lines, compared with 1% of patients who received a placebo.

Benefits of Jeuveau Injections

Jeuveau offers a quick, nonsurgical way to soften frown lines without changing the rest of your expression. Key benefits include:

  • FDA approved for frown lines: Jeuveau is approved specifically for moderate to severe glabellar lines in adults.
  • Fast appointments: the injections themselves take only a few minutes.
  • No downtime: most patients return to work and daily routines right after treatment.
  • Natural-looking results: relaxing targeted muscles softens creases while you can still show expression.
  • Another neurotoxin option: patients who want to try a different product than BOTOX Cosmetic or Dysport now have a choice at APDerm.

Are You a Candidate for Jeuveau?

Good candidates for Jeuveau are healthy adults with moderate to severe frown lines between the brows who want a temporary, nonsurgical improvement. Clinical trials included adults ages 18 to 81.

Jeuveau is not right for everyone. Your APDerm provider will review your health history and may recommend a different approach if you:

  • Are allergic to any botulinum toxin product or to an ingredient in Jeuveau
  • Have a skin infection at the planned injection site
  • Have a nerve or muscle disorder, such as ALS, myasthenia gravis, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome
  • Have existing swallowing or breathing problems
  • Are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or breastfeeding
  • Have received another botulinum toxin product within the past four months

Be sure to tell your provider about every medication and supplement you take, along with any prior cosmetic injections or facial surgery.

Jeuveau vs. BOTOX Cosmetic and Dysport

Jeuveau, BOTOX Cosmetic, and Dysport are all botulinum toxin type A injections that relax the muscles behind expression lines. All three are FDA approved for frown lines between the brows, and all three are available within the APDerm network.

The products are not interchangeable. Each one is manufactured and measured differently, and the FDA label notes that Jeuveau's units cannot be converted into units of any other botulinum toxin. That means a dose of one product does not translate directly to a dose of another.

Rather than choosing a brand on your own, talk with your APDerm provider. They will consider your treatment goals, past results, and any prior neurotoxin experience to recommend the best fit for you.

What to Expect at Your Jeuveau Appointment

A Jeuveau appointment at APDerm is quick and straightforward. It starts with a consultation, moves to a few minutes of injections, and wraps up with simple aftercare.

Consultation and Cost of Jeuveau

Your first visit is a consultation with a physician, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant. APDerm's provider consultation fee is $150, and $100 of that fee can be applied toward treatment completed within 90 days. Same-day treatment may be offered when your provider feels it is appropriate.

The cost of Jeuveau depends on how many units your provider recommends. Flexible payment is available through APDerm's cosmetic financing options.

To help reduce bruising, the American Academy of Family Physicians advises avoiding aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen for two weeks before botulinum toxin treatment. Check with your prescribing doctor before stopping any medication.

The Jeuveau Treatment

For frown lines, Jeuveau is injected into five points: one in the procerus muscle between the brows and two in each corrugator muscle above the brows. The standard on-label dose is 20 units total. Using a very fine needle, the injections themselves take just a few minutes, and most patients feel only brief pinches.

Results and Retreatment Timeline

Many patients notice their frown lines softening within the first few days. According to the American Academy of Family Physicians, botulinum toxin takes about two weeks to reach its full effect, and results typically last three to four months. Jeuveau should not be repeated more often than every three months. After treatment, avoid lying down for four hours. For the rest of the day, skip massaging the area, applying heat, heavy exercise, alcohol, and hot tubs.

Jeuveau FAQs

What are the side effects and risks of Jeuveau?

The most common side effects in clinical trials were headache, eyelid drooping, upper respiratory infection, and a temporary increase in white blood cell count. Mild bruising, swelling, or tenderness at the injection sites can also occur. Like all botulinum toxins, Jeuveau carries an FDA boxed warning about toxin spreading beyond the injection area. Seek medical help right away if you have trouble swallowing, speaking, or breathing after treatment.

Is there downtime after Jeuveau?

No. Most patients return to normal activities immediately. You'll simply follow a few same-day precautions, such as staying upright for four hours and avoiding heavy exercise, alcohol, and heat.

How long does Jeuveau last?

Botulinum toxin results typically last three to four months. Once the treated muscles begin to move again, you can schedule your next appointment, as long as it has been at least three months since your last treatment.

Does insurance cover Jeuveau?

No. Jeuveau for frown lines is a cosmetic treatment, so it is not covered by health insurance. APDerm offers cosmetic financing options to help spread out the cost.

Can I combine Jeuveau with fillers or other treatments?

Yes, in many cases. Jeuveau relaxes the muscles that cause frown lines, while dermal fillers restore volume in areas such as the cheeks and lips. Your APDerm provider can build a plan that combines treatments and times them safely.

Is Jeuveau available at every APDerm location?

Not yet. Jeuveau is currently offered in Manchester and Concord, NH, and in Stoneham, Boston (Newbury Street), and Chestnut Hill, MA. Other APDerm locations offer BOTOX Cosmetic and Dysport.
