About Monica Vargas, NP

Monica Vargas, NP-C, is a Certified Nurse Practitioner, a member of the New England Dermatological Society and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Monica attended Quinnipiac University, where she graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Upon graduation, she worked as a Registered Nurse for Hartford Hospital in Hartford, CT, later working at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts, where she was awarded the Nursing Excellence Award in 2014. Working in world-class hospitals made it clear
that patient care is a constant field of learning and something that she wanted to experience as a provider. Monica decided to further her education and career, she was accepted and graduated from the Master of Science in Nursing (Family Nurse Practitioner Program) at Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts.

Monica’s interest in dermatology began at Simmons College where she was drawn to Dermatology lectures and presentations. This interest blossomed into a love of all things dermatology as she decided this was the field of medicine she wanted to pursue. Upon graduation, Monica accepted a Dermatology position at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. At this prestigious hospital she was received the very best in dermatology and patient care training. One day a week she was selected to take part in a specialized pigmented lesion clinic, where she performed skin checks with mole mapping photos. Desiring professional growth, opportunity and autonomy in practice, she accepted a position at UMASS Dermatology. During her time at UMASS Dermatology she had the opportunity to partner and learn from some of the country’s most renowned dermatologists. The diversity of patient cases provided the confidence required to treat the most complex of dermatological conditions. In Monica’s four years at UMASS Dermatology she not only became proficient in all general dermatology concerns but was first assistant in Mohs procedures. This allowed her to follow her patients skin cancer journey from diagnosis to treatment.

While embracing the experience of an academic-based facility, Monica desired to move to private community-based practice to develop more meaningful relationships with patients. She is dedicated to creating the best possible patient experience and highest quality care to our patients.

Monica is committed to expanding her skill set and is devoted to staying up to date on the latest research and Dermatological news. She treats a wide array of dermatology concerns, with Acne, atopic dermatitis, and cutaneous oncology being her areas of passion.
